New Park, Retail, Boutique Hotel, & Entertainment Proposed Near Downtown Celina
The Celina Economic Development Corporation (EDC) has made a strategic move by purchasing approximately 32 acres of land near Celina’s historic Downtown Square, setting the stage for future growth. The Dallas Morning News reports the $13 million acquisition from the Martinek family, known for their grain elevators and retail feed stores across North Texas, represents one of the last large tracts of land available near the downtown area.
City officials view this property as a key piece in Celina’s ongoing development plans. The Celina EDC intends to collaborate with the city to explore various possibilities for the site, which could include a boutique hotel, retail spaces, or entertainment venues. One exciting aspect of the project is the planned park space, which will complement the nearby 30-acre Ousley Park, a linear park with a trail system that will connect with the new development. A creek runs through both properties, adding natural beauty to the area.

In addition to the park space, there are plans to extend walking and biking trails down to Sunset Boulevard, providing more outdoor recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. Celina EDC Director Anthony Satarino told the Dallas Morning News the property will serve as a vital entrance to downtown, potentially linking the current and future entertainment districts.
While planning and site preparation are expected to take over two years, there is a long-term vision in place. The Martinek family has a five-year lease on six acres of the property for their grain bins and office space, but after that, the full site will be open for development.
As Celina looks to the future, the city and EDC will also engage the community for feedback on the project, ensuring that residents have a say in how this important piece of land is developed. The Celina EDC funded this purchase through a half-cent sales tax, marking their first land acquisition and a significant step in shaping the city’s growth trajectory.
