Prosper ISD is more than just its academic rankings, however. From its acclaimed extracurriculars and programs to its state-of-the-art facilities, it’s easy to see why both kids and parents love Prosper ISD.
Prosper ISD is one of the fastest growing school districts in the state of Texas, growing from just under 5,000 students in 2012 to nearly 23,000 students in 2022. The district boasts an impressive 15 to 1 student-to-teacher ratio and has an overall ranking of excellence from the Texas Education Agency.
The district is home to 21 campuses, including Sam Johnson Elementary, which is located within the Mustang Lakes master-planned community.
The mission of Prosper ISD is to develop and graduate motivated, academically prepared individuals with the strength of character to make contributions to a rapidly changing society through an educational system that maintains high expectations, provides quality instruction and establishes a safe, orderly learning environment in the community that lives its name.
New Early Childhood Center
Scheduled to open in 2023, construction is underway on Prosper ISD’s new early childhood center for 3- and 4-year-olds. Located at 450 N. Luckenbach Drive in McKinney, the school will offer full-day Pre-K programs to eligible kids.
“The Early Childhood School is going to be an engaging, innovative environment for our three and four-year-olds that gives them the opportunity to explore, create and learn, guided by a phenomenal group of educators who have specialized training in our youngest learners,” Superintendent of Schools Holly Ferguson told Community Impact.
Academic and Extracurricular Programs
Prosper High School boasts an impressive 99% graduation rate, more than 20 Advanced Placement
Courses and 137 Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses across 14 programs of study.
The district is one of few Texas school districts to offer the prestigious Suzuki Strings violin program beginning in elementary school. The Suzuki program is housed at both Johnson Elementary in Mustang Lakes and Windsong Ranch Elementary.
Students in grades Kindergarten through 5th learn to play the violin the Suzuki way, a method to teach young children how to play musical instruments employing the same series of skills the child used to learn his or her native language.
Middle school students are able to choose tracks of interest to guide their course selection, such as STEM, architectural design, arts, health sciences, engineering, entrepreneurship, business and so much more.
Prosper High students have access to a full broadcast studio, medical tech lab, a mock courtroom and more. The impressive athletic facilities include a stadium that seats 12,000 and an indoor practice facility.
